THE LIVING FACTORY

Team Description: The proposal aims to debate the urban role such a large and central area could play in the architecture of Vienna itself. A new building, rational in its controlled seriality, attempts all the same to provide complex answers to formal and geometrical issues affecting the urban fabric. Within it, a radical compenetration of living/working activities is envisaged: starting from the premise that our approach to these two fundamental spheres of the life is currently undergoing an impressive process of transformation, it proposes a dimension where these two activities are finally interlocked. By the means of this new living/working dimension, the factory aspires to push a more communitarian way of existing and producing.

Jury Statement: “The jury acknowledges that the approach to superimpose the program of production and housing is an already proven way to deal with the proposed task. It sees the patios as a possible element to connect the 'two worlds'.”

A radical compenetration of living/working activities is proposed: “the living factory” aspires to push a more communitarian way of existing and producing; it works as an unicum, it’s a kind of complex machine open to the city.”
