AM BODENSEEPLATZ

Authors:
Barbara Mazza (BE), architect
Claudio Cortese (BE), architect
Based in: Sint Gilles, BELGIUM

Project Description by Team: The intervention is based on two different yet coherent readings of the site: that of a unitary and democratic space, namely the Bodenseeplatz, and that of the restaurant as a flexible and evolutionary infrastructure open to future uses and interactions. The aim of the presented project is not merely to fulfill the desired program but to define a new social space. This focal point can solidify the constellation with the neighboring urban areas and provide new opportunities for the local community and tourists. By creating a new square overlooking Lake Constance and the nearby cities, the intention is not to compete but rather to complete what was missing and reinforce the overall connection with the village.

Jury Statement: "This project showcases a bold idea that push the boundary of the brief. However, it raises questions about its viability as the solution for the future. [...] Concerns about biodiversity, particularly related to ground sealing, are profound. The project stands for its approach. It is the only submission that liberates the picturesque location of Lochaus from its structures, positioning buildings in a way that enhances only the outstanding views, if somewhat naively.[...]"
